The Private Security Authority (PSA) is the statutory body responsible for licensing and regulating the private security industry in Ireland.
Operating under the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, the PSA was established under the Private Security Services Act 2004. Since then, it has overseen the licensing of both security contractors and personnel across the country, helping to ensure standards throughout the industry.
The PSA’s headquarters are based in Tipperary Town, with inspectors working nationwide to support compliance and maintain industry standards.
The Authority’s primary role is to protect the public by ensuring that private security services operate within a licensing system based on clear standards and recognised qualifications.
Today, the PSA licences over 40,000 contractors and employees across 15 sectors within Ireland’s private security industry.
