What the Enhanced SEAI Grants Mean for You. And Why using Electric Ireland Superhomes is the Best Way to Maximise Them
April 5, 2026
What has SEAI announced?
On 27 January 2026, Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment Darragh O’Brien announced a wide-ranging package of grants designed to make home energy upgrades more affordable and accessible to Irish homeowners. The measures form part of the new National Residential Retrofit Plan and are being administered by SEAI.
The headline changes include:
A new Heat Pump System Grant of up to €12,500, covering:
- The heat pump unit (€6,500)
- Radiator and pipework upgrades (€2,000),
- A new Renewable Heating Bonus (€4,000)
- Increased grants for cavity wall insulation and attic insulation.
- A new Windows and Doors Grant for homes that meet, or that will meet after works, a minimum building fabric performance standard
- A new ‘Second Wall’ measure allowing homeowners who previously insulated one wall type to apply for a grant on a second wall upgrade from 2 March 2026
- Enhanced grants for First Time Buyers of existing homes, specifically for attic insulation, where in many cases the grant will cover most or all of the cost
- Higher grants for homeowners receiving Qualifying Welfare Payments, aligned with Warmer Homes Scheme
Why the One Stop Shop Route Still Makes the Most Sense
The enhanced grants will also highlight the individual measures available through the Better Energy Homes scheme, which allows homeowners to manage upgrades themselves. While this can be suitable for smaller, standalone works, it does mean taking on responsibility for coordinating contractors, sequencing upgrades, and ensuring everything works together effectively.
If you’ve been researching home retrofitting, it’s worth understanding what’s involved in managing a project like this yourself-and why many homeowners choose to work with an SEAI-registered One Stop Shop for a more straightforward and reliable path.

1. Access to the Full Range of Grants in a Single Project
Through the One Stop Shop route, you can access all of the SEAI’s home energy grants in a single, coordinated upgrade. Rather than applying for individual measures across different timelines, everything, insulation, heat pump, windows, doors, solar PV, and more, is pulled together into one holistic project plan.
If you achieve a B2 and a heat pump is included in the measures, you are automatically eligible for the enhanced One Stop Shop grant.
2. Grants Deducted at Source – No Waiting, No Cash Flow Risk
One of the most practical advantages of the One Stop Shop model is how the grant funding actually flows. Rather than paying the full cost upfront and waiting to claim your grant back from SEAI, the grant is deducted from your total cost. You only ever pay your net contribution; the grant amount is handled between your One Stop Shop and SEAI.
For example:
Cost of Retrofit: 20,000
Grant Amount: 8,000
Homeowner pays: 12,000
3. A Single Point of Contact for the Entire Project
Home retrofitting is a complex project involving multiple trades. Coordinating a heat pump installer, an insulation contractor, a BER assessor, a window and door supplier, and potentially a solar PV installer, while also managing SEAI grant applications, technical assessments, and compliance requirements, is a substantial project management challenge.
As an SEAI-registered One Stop Shop, Electric Ireland Superhomes takes on that complexity for you. We manage the technical assessment of your home, design the upgrade package, coordinate registered contractors, handle the SEAI application process, and ensure all works are certified to the required standard. You deal with one organisation, one point of contact, and one end-to-end process.
This isn’t just about convenience. It’s about getting the right measures in the right order, ensuring compatibility between upgrades (a heat pump, for example, works most efficiently in a well-insulated home with correctly sized radiators), and avoiding the costly mistakes that can arise from an uncoordinated approach.
4. Low-Cost Financing Options
Even with the enhanced SEAI grants, a deep retrofit is a meaningful investment for most homeowners. Through the One Stop Shop route, you can access low-cost loan products from participating lenders, specifically designed to fund home energy upgrades. These products carry competitive interest rates and are structured around the type of long-term investment a retrofit represents.
Combined with the upfront grant deductions, this means the net cost of a substantial home upgrade, can become manageable for a much wider range of households.
A Good Time to Act
The long-term value of a warm, low-energy home, for your comfort, your bills, and the value of your property, has never been clearer. And the grant support to help you get there has never been stronger. If you’ve been considering a retrofit but haven’t yet taken the next step, now is an excellent time to get a full home energy assessment of your home and an outline of the steps needed to bring your home to an A-rated standard. The full range of new grants will be available to you through the One Stop Shop process, with none of the administrative complexity of managing it yourself.
