Celebrate your Home with an Autumn Reset

It’s Autumn already – which means it’s time to celebrate your home at PTSB Ideal Home Show. So, join us from 17th-19th October for the opportunity to meet hundreds of suppliers, enjoy great value and be inspired by experts like Professional Home Organiser, Hazel Burton. Here, she shares just some of her many smart, actionable tips to bring harmony to your home – for this season and beyond.

Celebrate your home with an Autumn reset.

As the warmth of the summer months slowly gives way to cooler, crisper weather, it’s natural for us to start envisaging how we might reset our environment and prepare for those dark months ahead. It can also be a time for new ideas that can improve the routine and regimen of family life.

My Top Autumn reset tips

1)     Wardrobe rotation – Now is the time to put your holiday clothes away and reintroduce your wools and knits. So next time you open your wardrobe you’re faced with clothing that you love, need and have space for. Resetting your wardrobe also allows for quick decision-making on those busy school mornings.

2)     Back to school routines – To counteract the back to school madness and its impact on our daily routines, here are three ways to make the mornings and the evenings easier:

Family calendar – Make it visible, and ideally, place it in the kitchen – the heart of the home.

Breakfast & lunchbox stations – A simple set-up where kids can independently prepare their breakfasts or school lunches. This is a great way to start good habits and encourage their involvement.

Homework station – I have used this for years in my kitchen. I keep all the stationary they could possibly need for their homework in one handy box. It’s a great way to ensure there’s never a mad dash for a pencil sharpener!

3)     Identify pain points in your home – For us, it was the hallway – everything was dumped at the door. We identified the need for a reset and implemented a simple organised system beneath our stairs for shoes, schoolbags, sports gear and accessories. At this time of year, we swap suncream and sunglasses for gloves and woolly hats! But regardless of the season, now no one’s falling over the family shoe collection in the hall.

4)     Swap your summer items for winter – at this time of year, we reintroduce our log basket from the shed so we’re ready for those colder nights.

Autumn really is truly the perfect time to start celebrating, and resetting, our homes in line with the changing seasons. I’m looking forward to sharing my insights on what it truly means to fully reset your space at October’s PTSB Ideal Home Show at the RDS.
