The Flourish Garden designed by Outlook Gardens
The Ideal Home Showhouse will be set in a beautiful landscaped garden designed by award winning landscaping contractor Dermot Kerins of Outlook Gardens.
Dermot has built many award-winning gardens at garden festivals at home and abroad including the infamous Chelsea Flower Show.
The Flourish Garden: a space to escape the stresses of life and reconnect with nature. In our “always on” world, a garden can bring a welcome respite from the ever increasing demands of our busy lives. A space where family and friends can connect and just “be”. A place friends and family can flourish in!
The Garden will contain all the elements for outdoor living while also being a haven for plants and wildlife.
A spacious Irish natural stone terrace with a simple glass covered pergola to allow use in all weather, an outdoor kitchen, sofa and dining area. A central reflection pool and a small kitchen garden.
The remaining space will be filled with lush planting including evergreen specimen plants for all year flower and foliage interest, plants are selected to fill the garden with a beautiful scent to enjoy and to encourage butterflies and bees.
All plants and materials in this garden will be natural and locally sourced.
The Environment and Sustainability
As a company we seek to improve people’s lives by improving their environment, we believe that plants and nature have a sub conscious impact on our overall wellbeing and that all gardens should have a primary focus on plants and nature and not on hard landscaping. A garden needs to be accessible all year to suit our climate, this is why we have included the covered area with lighting and heating (LED Heaters) a covered area is essential in our mild but often damp climate.
There is a current trend towards DESIGNING outdoor dining and entertaining, and we regularly incorporate these elements and believe that this is a brilliant way to encourage increased use of the outdoor space, but in our climate a simple cover is essential.
The incorporation of natural and lush planting to attract wildlife is often missed and this is what makes a garden and reconnects us with nature, this is why our primary focus is always on plants. Each site and client has their own brief and we see it as our job to guide them based on our training and experience.
We believe that all gardens should be individual to each clients requirements but incorporate the timeless beauty of good design and well thought out planting which is the lowest maintenance element of any garden once it is well designed and planting into high quality soil…
As we say “you can plant a bad plant into good soil and it will flourish but if you plant a good plant into bad soil it will fail” unfortunately we see far too much of the latter going on.
With a full-time team of 15 staff we provide a comprehensive build service, backed up by a comprehensive maintenance service based on the craft of gardening. Which brings out the best in the plants so that our clients can take time to enjoy their garden all year around.
We apply organic principals with all of our build and maintenance projects, Using peat free recycled composts, organic seaweed fertilisers, also incorporating microryza for soil health and nematodes for pest control.
There’s a popular Chinese proverb that says: “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
If you have a garden in your library, everything will be complete. – Marcus Tullius Cicero, Letter to Varro, 1st century AD
