Every full member (MGLDA) has been in professional practice for a minimum of 3 years and each has had their portfolio assessed by an independent panel of experts from the design, horticultural and academic sides of the profession

Michael O’Reilly, MGLDA

Based in Belfast, Michael O’Reilly, MGLDA, set up The Garden Design Shop in 2008. It is an ethically independent garden and landscape design business. Michael is happy to travel and garden design anywhere in Ireland, the UK or internationally. He has completed numerous beautiful garden designs throughout Ireland and approaches each client brief with enthusiasm and energy. Michael is currently Chairperson of the GLDA.
Vyvian White, MGLDA

Vyvian White returned to Ireland in 2014 having worked in the south of France for ten years. He founded his company Lotus Landscape Design while still in France. He has a BSc In Horticulture from Reading University. Vyvian specialises in big garden design, with a focus on hard landscaping that includes garden shaping, wall and terrace building, patio design and full planting plans. In recent years his design focus has been on smaller urban gardens with creative use of spaces.
Gary Foran, MGLDA

Gary holds a BSc in Landscape Architecture & Ecology (University of Sheffield, 1999). He enjoys sharing his passion for garden and landscape design with clients, all the while seeking to match their confidence and trust in him as a professional designer, with results that meet, and perhaps surpass, their expectations. Attention to detail is of paramount importance, be it in his own designs or in the work of contractors executing them on behalf of a client. He takes a very hand’s on approach throughout the entire process, often working alongside the main contractor during a garden build. In most cases, he will provide the plant requirements for a project and a planting service.
Bernie O’Reilly, MGLDA

Bernie studied in the College of Amenity Horticulture, National Botanic Gardens and attained a BSc (Hons) Horticulture in 2013. Since setting up her garden design business, Sage ’n’ Thyme, she has completed a number of residential garden projects in the Dublin, Meath, Cavan & Leitrim areas. An enthusiastic plantsperson, Bernie uses her extensive plant knowledge to create naturalistic planting schemes which enhance the mood of the space and excite the observer with each season. While her client base is predominantly residential, Bernie also creates design solutions for community gardens which are naturalistic, respectful of the environment and sustain and attract wildlife. She also teaches groups how to set up a garden and grow their own fresh fruit and vegetables.
Ingrid Smyth, MGLDA

Ingrid Smyth Garden Design (ISGD) is design and plant focused service. Her past experience in design was honed as a designer and company associate with a prominent Architectural Firm and her continued passion for plants and materials constantly informs the work she does. Ingrid has designed and constructed private gardens of all sizes, gardens for residential care homes and commercial projects and is also the in-house designer and garden design tutor with Altamont Plant Sales a rare plant nursery in County Carlow.
Patricia Tyrrell, MGLDA

Patricia Tyrrell is a Masters Graduate of the School of Landscape Architecture at UCD. Having initially studied Landscape Horticulture, Patricia launched her own Design Consultancy Business in 1984. She has completed many assignments in the Commercial and Residential sectors. As a qualified Landscape Horticulturist, Patricia believes strongly that good landscape design should be underpinned with good planting design, and offers a specialist service in Planting Design to clients with existing gardens in need of renewal.
Anne Hamilton, MGLDA

Based in West Cork, Anne’s work combines a strong sense of form and function, with an emphasis on the natural beauty of materials. Special attention is given to lifestyles of those that will inhabit her designs and bring them to life; living art for living in. Anne trained in Landscape Design at Richmond College and honed her horticultural skills at the Chelsea Physic Garden. Since then she has enjoyed creating gardens and outdoor spaces in London and West Cork. Anne has also created two award winning gardens for Bloom in the Park.
